Iceland Aurora – the film

Iceland Aurora is a non-narrative time-lapse film which captures the mesmerising Aurora Borealis and the unique scenery of Iceland. Each of Iceland Aurora’s seven chapters showcases a unique aspect of the Icelandic winter, with matching scores from musicians Pétur Jónsson, Kajak and Yagya. Together, they will take you on a magical journey through the ideal Icelandic winter week!

Three independent film makers spent 130 nights over the past 3 years time-lapse photographing northern lights in 50 different locations across Iceland. Chasing green, purple and pink northern lights, as well as sunsets, sunrises, nocturnal clouds, starry skies, city scenes and barren moonlit landscapes. The images put together compose a roughly 30 minute long film made from over 100,000 individual RAW High Res images.

The film was entirely self-funded and done alongside full-time employment.
