Northern Lights Hunt
The cloud forecast was clear, the day had been clear, the Aurora forecast was strong. We had high hopes. As we drove up to our first pick-up they were stood in front of their hotel looking up at the sky. What a good indication that something is already starting to happen up there 😉 We hastily gathered up the rest of our guests… reclaiming two mistakenly picked up by another company… and hurried along out of town. Our planned destination was Vatnsleysuströnd but the lights were getting wilder by the minute. We soon made a short stop to re-evaluate (and let the folks out for a minute to have a look). Based on the fact that the lights were already on show we decided it best to drive as short as possible, hence ending up at Hvaleyrarvatn just out of Hafnarfjörður.

Stargazing
The group made good use of the moments between several Northern Lights displays to explore Jupiter, the Moon and Orion Nebula who all shone bright for us this evening.

Northern Lights sighting: First in Reykjavík, stopping at Hvaleyrarvatn (yellow star)
Time of sighting: 20:00
Duration: on and off until after midnight
