When flying in and out of Iceland make sure you get a window seat. You just might get a glimpse of the Holuhraun eruption in Bárðarbunga. In the picture above you see the Northern Lights and the glow from the volcanic eruption reflected in Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon.

This is a new satellite photo of Iceland showing the lava field formed by the still ongoing Holuhraun eruption. The lava now covers 84.1 square km (32.5 square miles), an area the size of Manhattan. The new lava field has crossed the track Dyngjufjallaleið and extended into the older lava of Þorvaldshraun, the Icelandic Met Office reports.
